Fascinating, stark, entrancing, visual masterpiece. The sets are extremely plain, but it's on purpose, and all the attention is on actors and their faces, especially close-ups, and especially the fantastic expressions by Maria Falconetti as the titular Jeanne D'Arc. As a random piece of trivia, I think this was the inspiration for Sinead O'Connor's famous "Nothing Compares 2 U" music video.
